The bonefish, a skittish fish with keen eyesight, is a popular sport fish that is found in shallow, sandy areas, often in waters less than a foot deep! The bonefish feed on crabs, worms and shrimp. Bonefish have deeply forked tails that provide power for chasing their prey. Given that the fish has numerous, tiny bones (hence it’s name) it is not a popular fish for eating. The average size of a bonefish is between 3 and 5 pounds, but fish over 10 pounds are commonly found in Florida.
